Ordained in 1834, he was parish priest of Joux-la-Ville and then St. Martin d'Avallon〔Charles Warren Currier, ''History of Religious Orders'', p. 96.〕 before becoming a monk. He founded the French province of the Cassinese Congregation of the Primitive Observance〔(''Catholic Encyclopedia'' )〕 and the Society of Saint Edmund in 1843.
